Study Finds Boat Shows Effective for Sales

A recent study indicates that boat shows are indeed one of the top influencers of boat-buying decisions, and ultimately lead to sales. Foresight Research conducted a survey that looked at over three thousand new boat buyers who purchased boats between January 2009 and August 2010. According to the survey, radio, newspaper and television ads are the key ways that consumers find out about boat shows. Here are some other interesting findings that attest to the effectiveness of boat shows when it comes to sales:

Buyers reported that they attended an average of 1.8 boat shows before making their purchase.
61% of boat show participants reported they got the information they needed to make their buying decision.
64% of participants go to a boat show planning to visit the brand they wish to purchase.
Consumers spend an average of 49 minutes looking at the brand of boat they ultimately purchased.
The average time between a boat show and when the purchase occurs is 3.3 months later.
41% of participants said they attended boat shows as a child.

This shows the importance of making boat shows family-friendly, as it creates a lasting impression on future boat buyers. Although consumers may not purchase boats right away at the show, the study finds that boat shows are effective in giving people information they need for a purchase in the near future.

Mysterious Yacht Washes Up on Florida Gulf Coast

Last Wednesday, an unmanned yacht called “Makin Waves” mysteriously washed up on the shores of Redding Beach, west of St. Petersburg on the Florida Gulf Coast. The 48-foot yacht had no one onboard and its engines running on autopilot when it was spotted by local resident Gene Borg.

“I see boats all the time — it’s one of the joys of living here — but this one was coming straight in at the beach,” Borg said. “I hollered at my wife to call 911 and I put on my bathing suit out of concern someone was having a medical emergency.” Borg inspected the boat and found no one inside.

The mystery yacht was reported stolen from a marina in Cancun, Mexico. The owner, Arturo Millet Reyes, who owns a professional soccer team in the Mexican state of Yucatan, said his yacht was taken from a private marina and he reported the theft to local police. The Mexican Coast Guard had been on the lookout for the stolen yacht.

Investigators saw no signs of violence or evidence that the yacht was used for criminal activity. “Makin Waves”, a 48-foot Sea Ray Sundancer, sells for $1 million new. The owner is in touch with sheriff’s deputies to retrieve his boat and the case has been closed in Pinellas County, Florida.

Indian River Nautical Event July 24-25

For a fun summertime marine event, head out to the Indian River Nautical Flea Market and Seafood Fest this Saturday and Sunday in Vero Beach, Florida. At the festival, held at Indian River Fairgrounds, you’ll find “sizzling summer marine bargains” among over 200 nautical vendor booths. The booths will be selling fishing rods, reels, lures and lines, antique collectibles and maps, teak furniture, tournament gear, nautical art, crafts and jewelry, marine artifacts, boating apparel, taxidermy and fish reproductions, diving equipment, marine accessories parts and more!

There will be live music entertainment from 10 bands performing, delicious seafood, new and used boats on display and “nautical bargains galore” at this massive maritime event. July Fourth Fireworks off the Florida Coast!

Smack dab between Memorial Day and Labor Day, July 4^th is the mid-summer holiday that calls for a big celebration. No matter where in the country you are spending this Independence Day, be sure to catch a fantastic fireworks show on this patriotic occasion. Here are some great Fourth of July events happening in Florida!

Independence Day celebrations will kick off at Miami Beach on July 4^th .This free beach party will also celebrate the area’s diverse cultural heritage. Soak up the atmosphere of Latin and tropical bands with a wonderful pyrotechnic display as the finale.

If you want to experience a fireworks show in the nation’s oldest city, head over to St. Augustine on July 4^th. Festivities start at 6pm with a mixture of Big Band, swing and patriotic music and is followed by a 20-minute fireworks show over Matanzas Bay at 9:30pm.

The Fourth of July celebration in Pensacola will coincide with the International Food Festival. The celebration will have a huge variety of food, music, arts and crafts vendors and a children’s area with inflatables and pony rides.
