South Florida Marine Industry Spins for a Cause

Tuesday, May 24th, 2011

Last Friday, the marine industry came together in downtown Fort Lauderdale and geared up for a great cause. The third annual Spin-A-Thon to benefit Kids in Distress (KID), a South Florida agency that helps abused and neglected children, was a rousing success. The Spin-A-Thon was hosted by the Marine Industry Cares Foundation, which was created by a group of industry leaders committed to bringing the marine and local communities together to raise money and awareness for local charities.

For six hours, more than 400 people took a turn cycling on stationary bikes for KID. The event raised over $100,000 and counting for the charity. It was a fun way for the maritime industry to come ashore and make a difference in the lives of local children and families.

The day began when City of Fort Lauderdale Mayor Jack Seiler and former Dolphins player Keith Sims kicked off the event by cycling first at 1pm. Once commenced, each participating marine business had a team bike and a group of enthusiastic cyclists that kept the wheels turning until the spinning event’s end at 7pm. But, the festivities lasted well into the night at a “Thank-you” party for participants and guests.

This year’s Spin-a-thon was sanctioned by Winterfest and was a Fort Lauderdale centennial event. The organizers hope to continue raising support for local charities through exciting, fun events like the Spin-a-thon, which promotes a sense of camaraderie and unity among the marine industry. The ultimate goal is for other shipping industries in cities around the world to adopt the model and implement similar events in their own area.

Atlantic Yacht and Ship is a yacht broker in Fort Lauderdale and has served the South Florida community for over 50 years. Events like the Spin-A-Thon are a great way to showcase the maritime industry. If you are looking for a yacht for sale in Fort Lauderdale, the professionals at Atlantic Yacht and Ship will help you find the vessel you’re looking for, so check out our yacht listings today!

Study Finds Boat Shows Effective for Sales

Tuesday, December 7th, 2010

A recent study indicates that boat shows are indeed one of the top influencers of boat-buying decisions, and ultimately lead to sales. Foresight Research conducted a survey that looked at over three thousand new boat buyers who purchased boats between January 2009 and August 2010. According to the survey, radio, newspaper and television ads are the key ways that consumers find out about boat shows. Here are some other interesting findings that attest to the effectiveness of boat shows when it comes to sales:

  • Buyers reported that they attended an average of 1.8 boat shows before making their purchase.
  • 61% of boat show participants reported they got the information they needed to make their buying decision.
  • 64% of participants go to a boat show planning to visit the brand they wish to purchase.
  • Consumers spend an average of 49 minutes looking at the brand of boat they ultimately purchased.
  • The average time between a boat show and when the purchase occurs is 3.3 months later.
  • 41% of participants said they attended boat shows as a child.

This shows the importance of making boat shows family-friendly, as it creates a lasting impression on future boat buyers. Although consumers may not purchase boats right away at the show, the study finds that boat shows are effective in giving people information they need for a purchase in the near future.

Trinity Yachts to Unveil ‘Mi Sueño’ at Fort Lauderdale Boat Show

Tuesday, October 12th, 2010

Trinity Yachts, a US-based luxury builder of custom super yachts, is debuting their 33-foot custom motor yacht at Fort Lauderdale’s annual International Boat Show.

Making its first appearance at Trinity’s Gulfport shipyard in New Orleans, the Mi Sueño motor yacht features a 59m semi-displacement aluminum hull. Luxurious design elements include the aft entrance, uniquely designed for dual use as a custom wine cellar with a capacity for over 400 bottles. This opulent addition is wrapped in bronze, with glass wine refrigerators just above cigar humidors made of robust wormwood. The foyer spares no expense, with toppled marble mosaic flooring, sage leather benches and end tables made with petrified wood.

The interior design of this impressive vessel was done by the renowned yacht and custom aircraft design team at Patrick Knowles Design. Described as “urban contemporary with overtones of Zen,” Patrick Knowles creates a tony environment while maintaining an earthy ambiance. A variety of gorgeous natural woods line the interior of Mi Sueño – Honduran mahogany, Australian lancewood, European maple burl and wenge from the Belgian Congo were used in the construction of the salon and dining area alone.

Off of the dining room you will find the split-level master suite. Featuring seven staterooms, this luxury motor yacht boasts a wheelchair-accessible room, as well as specially-equipped massage and exercise spaces.

Come view the unveiling of this extraordinary motor yacht at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, being held from October 28th to November 1st.  Atlantic Yacht and Ship offers hundreds of new and used boats and yachts, including Trinity Yachts.
