Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show Expected to Be Stronger This Year

The Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show is the city’s biggest nautical event of the year, coming up October 28 to November 1. Efrem “Skip” Zimbalist, president and CEO of Show Management, the company sponsoring the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, says he expects the event to be stronger this year than last.

Yacht brokerage is leading the way in the marine industry’s economic recovery, with more realistic asking prices, which are generating higher sales volume, says Zimbalist. The Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show will be the key event of the year for generating sales.

The CEO of Show Management also said that early August advance ticket sales and exhibitor space for the boat show are a little above compared to last year at this time. The company is aggressively marketing the event in 16 countries, with an emphasis on Russia and Latin America this year.

In an effort to make the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show a sustainable event, Show Management is partnering with Native Energy to offset the event’s carbon footprint through renewable energy projects.

Enjoy Free Day Dockage at the 20th Anniversary Sunday Jazz Brunch at the Fort Lauderdale Riverwalk

The SunTrust Sunday Jazz Brunch has been a festive tradition at the Fort Lauderdale Riverwalk, held on the first Sunday of every month. This Sunday, the City of Fort Lauderdale announces its 20th Anniversary Party! The usual Jazz Brunch hours of 11am to 2pm have been extended to 4pm this week to honor 20 years of celebration with the Fort Lauderdale community.

Located on the scenic Riverwalk, the free live outdoor concert series brings the best jazz artists from the area. On May 2, the Sunday Jazz Brunch presents Juanita Dixon, Jeff Prine and The New York Horns on the Esplanade stage. Mantra will lbe performing at the C. Hoffman Gazebo. Listen to the soulful tunes of Porcelain Quartet in the Peck Courtyard, and Nucklebusters Quintet will perform live on the Las Olas Riverfront.

Artists are featured on four stages, so there is plenty of room to set up chairs, blankets and picnic baskets to enjoy the live entertainment. Everyone is welcome to attend, even pets!

The 20^th Anniversary of the SunTrust Sunday Jazz Brunch is a great way to relax and enjoy Fort Lauderdale’s scenic Riverwalk, located on the New River. Plans to Improve Canals in Fort Lauderdale, Florida Will Draw Mega Yachts

As the Yachting Capital of the World, Fort Lauderdale draws in millions of dollars of revenue each year from the yachting industry. The marine industry in Fort Lauderdale creates jobs, brings a world-renowned annual boat show each fall, increases tourism dollars and not to mention boosts demand for waterfront real estate – keeping up property value in the region.

That’s why it’s no surprise that Fort Lauderdale city officials are looking into the dredging of the New River, the main line of access to yachting facilities in the city. The improvements are designed to make Fort Lauderdale competitive with international ports in the Caribbean, Mediterranean and Dubai.

The city has commissioned the Florida Inland Navigation District, a state agency that keeps the Intracoastal Waterway navigable, to determine if it would be possible to deepen a 6-mile stretch of river. The waterway averages 10 feet deep would be dredged to 14 feet, making it possible for newer boats with jet drives and larger yachts and sailboats up to 200 feet long to come through.

The project is still being studied to examine how it would affect the surrounding environment. It is estimated to cost around $16 million, but the process would take two years before any dredging occurs.

Former Yacht of Queen Elizabeth, “The Bloodhound” to go on Display in Edinburgh, Scotland

The Bloodhound, The former yacht of Queen Elizabeth of Britain will be displayed in Edinburgh, Scotland, alongside the Royal Yacht Britannia. In its history, this racing vessel won a number of races in the south of England, and sailed across the pond to compete and race in Bermuda.

The royal family purchased The Bloodhound in 1962, and she turned out to be touted as one of the most successful open sea racing yachts. It was on this yacht that Prince Charles of Wales learned to sail. In 1969, The Bloodhound was sold seven years later, and restored in 2003 by Tony McGrail, a classic yacht restorer.

Having fallen into disrepair, the more than 70 year old yacht faced a number of recent renovations. The Bloodhound went on sale on January 8th and was purchased by the Royal Yacht Britannia Trust, who are preparing to have it displayed for the public to see come April.

Rear Admiral Neil Rankin, who is the Chairman of The Royal Yacht Britannia Trust, announced he was thrilled to have acquired The Bloodhound, as it is an important poece of yachting history in Britain. He stated, “We look forward to having Bloodhound alongside Britannia once more, for the public to see what a wonderful Ocean-racing yacht she is and why she was so fondly regarded by all associated with her illustruous past.”
