iPad-Powered Superyacht Integrates World’s Most Exclusive App

Lurssen, a German luxury yacht firm, created custom software that gives passengers control of everything except the captain’s steering wheel – all with the touch of an iPad.

Sean “P. Diddy” Combs, his girlfriend Kim Porter and their daughters D’Lila and Jessie chartered “Solemates,” the first pleasure yacht to offer the new technology. The rapper and his family had control of all the shipboard entertainment and climate systems, blinds and lights in their cabins, and could even have their drinks dressed with the use of complimentary iPads. “You won’t find this app for download in the Apple store any time soon,” said Rupert Connor, central agent from chartering firm the Luxury Yacht Group. “The captain hands each guest their own iPad when they board, which they get to keep for the entirety of their trip.” The application’s homepage may be customized by guests to suit their preferences – “For instance, if we have a client who we know is a music industry bigwig, then we’ll program the app’s homepage to have a prominent shortcut to our high-speed media server’s music library, and we’ll do our research to make sure we have all the music they’d want to listen to,” said Connor.

The vessel also features multiple Jacuzzis and flat-screen LCD televisions, a luxurious al-fresco gym that can morph into a disco with built-in light and sound systems, inflatable floating trampoline, jet-powered surfboards, an aromatherapy shower and more.

World’s Largest Single-Masted Yacht Spotted in Caribbean

The Mirabella V was spotted off the coast of St. George in the Caribbean earlier this week. The town was abuzz as locals and tourists gathered around to catch a glimpse of the world’s largest single-masted yacht, measuring 247 feet long. The mast of the ship reaches 292 feet above water level. Mirabella V was launched in November 2003 and sold for $50 million. She was part of a fleet owned by the CEO of Avis car rental company, Joe Vittoria. Mirabella V was formerly used as a luxury yacht charter that cost $250,000 per week. Today she is privately owned and operated.

The ship features a 20-person Jacuzzi, spacious dining room, surround sound theater, gym with sauna and TVs, and a garage holding jet skis, ski boats, kayaks and other sea toys. The six guest cabins can hold up to twelve people, plus a full width master suite on the main deck.

The Mirabella V has spent the last eight months cruising Antigua and St. Martin in the Caribbean with the owners and approximately 15 crew members on board. They are planning on staying in St. George for the next week or two.
