A Glossy Yacht is a Healthy Yacht

Tuesday, January 3rd, 2012

Boat DetailingThe sun and salt water may create a fun atmosphere for us but they wreak havoc on your vessel.  The sun and salt are constantly attacking your paint, gel coat, metal, leather, vinyl and eisenglass.  If left unchecked these elements will destroy your investment.  Proper detailing of your vessel is much more important than most people realize.  Routine motor yacht maintenance and regularly scheduled cleanings will both extend the life of your investment and keep our vessel looking beautiful.

The first line of defense against the harsh elements is the regular removal of salt with a complete wash down.  The longer the salt sits on your yacht the more damage it does.  The second line of defense is to keep your yacht  waxed. Preventative protection such as waxing, compounding and metal polishing will keep your yacht glistening and make it easier to clean.

Atlantic Yacht and Ship can help you keep your vessel looking great and in great shape. Our complete detailing services include oxidation removal, waxing/compounding, gelcoats, metal polishing, leather and vinyl treatment, teak cleaning and oiling, eisenglass cleaning, engine room detailing, bilge cleaning and more.

Do not forget the interior of your yacht.  Food crumbs left behind are a magnet for mold and mildew. Let Atlantic Yacht perform a thorough cleaning, our interior services include maid service, pillows, draperies, bedspreads, blinds, carpet cleaning and/or replacement, wood flooring, wall coverings, carpet runners and more.

Innovative Green Products for Your Yacht

Tuesday, November 9th, 2010

In recent years, the yachting industry has taken some big strides towards creating environmentally conscious products and practices for operating and maintaining boats.

One innovative green invention for yachts is the ThermalTreat Zero Liquid Discharge System developed by Nassef Engineering and Equipment Company in Pensacola, Florida. The ThermalTreat is a sewage treatment system for yachts that evaporates an incredible 98 percent of sewage on board. Sewage is oxidized into bacteria-free vapor with only a negligible amount of mineral ash left over. The sewage treatment device weighs less than 100 pounds and can process up to 500 gallons a day. The benefits are no liquid discharge, no odor, no chemicals and minimal additional electric load. A sustainable sewage treatment system like this is an improvement for the yachting community.

For prevention of barnacles and other growth on the bottom of boats, Eco-Clad marine coating is an epoxy-based coating system that once immersed in water, forms a biofilm similar to the slime naturally found on fish. The biofilm repels unwanted marine life attachments such as barnacles. Eco-Clad is anti-corrosive, recommended for fiberglass hulls and mimics natural systems without negative ecological effects. Eco-Clad meets the U.S. Navy’s approval for lack of toxins and is safe for waters.

Yacht captains in Fort Lauderdale will have access to these great eco-friendly products soon. Former Presidential Yacht Undergoing Restoration in Florida

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010

The former presidential yacht, Honey Fitz, is undergoing restoration in Riviera Beach, Florida. Built in 1931, the Honey Fitz has seen a lot of history and has served five American presidents! The 93-foot yacht has been called a characteristically American yacht for its ability to travel extended distances at a quick pace.

After World War II, President Harry Truman and subsequent presidents used the ship for transport until Richard Nixon decided it was an extravagance and put it up for sale in 1970. It was President John F. Kennedy who made the ship famous, naming it after his grandfather John F. Fitzgerald aka “Honey Fitz”. The Kennedy family has spent vacations basking on the deck of the Honey Fitz.

In 1998, Honey Fitz was sold at auction for $5.9 million to businessman William Kallop, who keeps the boat docked in Florida. The underside of the yacht is in poor condition and needs serious repairing. Honey Fitz is not only getting that section of her hull fixed but is undergoing a full scale restoration to her glory days as a presidential vessel. Fortunately, the original blueprints for the ship were found so she will stay true to her former design.
