Innovative Green Products for Your Yacht

Tuesday, November 9th, 2010

In recent years, the yachting industry has taken some big strides towards creating environmentally conscious products and practices for operating and maintaining boats.

One innovative green invention for yachts is the ThermalTreat Zero Liquid Discharge System developed by Nassef Engineering and Equipment Company in Pensacola, Florida. The ThermalTreat is a sewage treatment system for yachts that evaporates an incredible 98 percent of sewage on board. Sewage is oxidized into bacteria-free vapor with only a negligible amount of mineral ash left over. The sewage treatment device weighs less than 100 pounds and can process up to 500 gallons a day. The benefits are no liquid discharge, no odor, no chemicals and minimal additional electric load. A sustainable sewage treatment system like this is an improvement for the yachting community.

For prevention of barnacles and other growth on the bottom of boats, Eco-Clad marine coating is an epoxy-based coating system that once immersed in water, forms a biofilm similar to the slime naturally found on fish. The biofilm repels unwanted marine life attachments such as barnacles. Eco-Clad is anti-corrosive, recommended for fiberglass hulls and mimics natural systems without negative ecological effects. Eco-Clad meets the U.S. Navy’s approval for lack of toxins and is safe for waters.

Yacht captains in Fort Lauderdale will have access to these great eco-friendly products soon. Located in Fort Lauderdale, the yachting capital of the world, Atlantic Yacht and Ship is a  serving the yachting community for over 50 years. Miami Decides Between Boat Show or NFL Super Bowl

Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010

With the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show wrapping up yesterday, the next large boat show to look forward to in South Florida is the Miami International Boat Show coming up in February. The annual yacht show in Miami Beach features the world’s most extraordinary and unique yachts and superyachts from international yacht brokers on over more than 2.5 million square feet of exhibit space.  Visitors can explore every type of boat from luxury yacht builders, including catamarans, fishing boats, house boats, sailboats, schooners, motor yachts for sale and more. The Miami International Boat Show has taken place over President’s Day weekend every year since 1948.

To boost the Miami tourism industry, South Florida organizers will be applying to host the 2015 Super Bowl at the Miami Dolphin’s Sun Life Stadium. However, with the NFL considering a longer season, Super Bowl 2015 may fall on President’s Day weekend, presenting a conflict with the Miami International Boat Show. The boat show, which draws 90,000 people each year, is a major boost for hotels and the Miami tourism industry. The Super Bowl is also a major economic boost for the city. It is now up to South Florida organizers to decide whether to move the date of the boat show, or as another option, to hold Super Bowl operations in Fort Lauderdale. The NFL housed its media operations and headquarters in Broward County rather than in Miami for the 2010 Super Bowl game. Fort Lauderdale, with ample hotel rooms and venues, is still an option and possible representative for South Florida.

Fort Lauderdale Int’l Boat Show Coming Up Oct. 28!

Tuesday, October 19th, 2010

The annual Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show is the largest boat show in the world, and expects to be even stronger this year with a list of new features and firsts. From Thursday, October 28 to Monday, November 1, 2010, the 51st Annual Boat Show will hold more than $3 billion worth of yachts, superyachts, electronics, engines and boating accessories from all the major manufacturers and boat builders worldwide.

Why this year’s show will be even bigger and better than ever:

  • Florida’s sales tax cap on boats was passed on July 1, 2010. The tax on boats is 6 percent and capped at no more than $18,000. This tax incentive is expected to tremendously boost yacht sales at the show this year.
  • The largest boat built in the U.S. since the 1930’s, the 281-foot Cakewalk, will make its international debut in Fort Lauderdale.
  • The Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show goes green! Show Management, the company that manages the boat show, has pledged to offset 100 percent of greenhouse gas emissions from the boat show. Also, the Broward County Convention Center is on track to becoming LEED-certified.

The Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show sprawls across over 3 million square feet of space in 5 locations:

1.       Bahia Mar Beach Resort and Yachting Center

2.       The Hall of Fame Marina

3.       Las Olas Municipal Marina

4.       Hilton Fort Lauderdale Marina

5.       Broward County Convention Center

Located in the heart of Fort Lauderdale – the yachting capital of the world – is Atlantic Yacht and Ship, which has been serving the yacht community for over 50 years. With an extensive list of motor yachts for sale, Atlantic is sure to make a splash at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show this year.
