Destination: Grenada, The Spice of the Caribbean!

Wednesday, December 15th, 2010

Winter Solstice is coming up and if you’re looking for a warmer place to escape for the holidays, the Caribbean islands could be just the perfect location! Whether you wish to charter a yacht or take your own boat out, the Caribbean islands welcome you with a warm, tropical escape. This week, we highlight the south Caribbean islands of Grenada and the neighboring Grenadines. The new Port Louis Marina near St. George, the capital of Grenada, is a huge draw for superyachts. With 160 slips for yachts up to 300 feet, the marina is located below the hurricane belt and offers a safe and welcome place for yachts.

The island of Grenada has an international airport just ten minutes from the capital. The island is English speaking, with no traffic jams and little crime. All the hotels on Grenada were developed not to exceed the height of the palm trees in order to preserve the natural look of the island and to offer unobstructed views of the scenery. There are plenty of natural wonders to explore including spectacular waterfalls, rainforests, rivers, wreck diving and pristine Caribbean beaches.

Grenada is nicknamed the Spice of the Caribbean for its soil and climate that’s perfect for growing spices, making the country one of the world’s largest producers of nutmeg and mace. Herbs and spices make their way into the local cuisine, which consists of spiced meats and fish with lots of fresh fruit and vegetables.

Add some spice to your Winter holiday by making a trip to the Caribbean island of Grenada! Innovative Green Products for Your Yacht

Tuesday, November 9th, 2010

In recent years, the yachting industry has taken some big strides towards creating environmentally conscious products and practices for operating and maintaining boats.

One innovative green invention for yachts is the ThermalTreat Zero Liquid Discharge System developed by Nassef Engineering and Equipment Company in Pensacola, Florida. The ThermalTreat is a sewage treatment system for yachts that evaporates an incredible 98 percent of sewage on board. Sewage is oxidized into bacteria-free vapor with only a negligible amount of mineral ash left over. The sewage treatment device weighs less than 100 pounds and can process up to 500 gallons a day. The benefits are no liquid discharge, no odor, no chemicals and minimal additional electric load. A sustainable sewage treatment system like this is an improvement for the yachting community.

For prevention of barnacles and other growth on the bottom of boats, Eco-Clad marine coating is an epoxy-based coating system that once immersed in water, forms a biofilm similar to the slime naturally found on fish. The biofilm repels unwanted marine life attachments such as barnacles. Eco-Clad is anti-corrosive, recommended for fiberglass hulls and mimics natural systems without negative ecological effects. Eco-Clad meets the U.S. Navy’s approval for lack of toxins and is safe for waters.

Yacht captains in Fort Lauderdale will have access to these great eco-friendly products soon. Located in Fort Lauderdale, the yachting capital of the world, Atlantic Yacht and Ship is a  serving the yachting community for over 50 years. Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show Expected to Be Stronger This Year

Tuesday, August 17th, 2010

The Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show is the city’s biggest nautical event of the year, coming up October 28 to November 1. Efrem “Skip” Zimbalist, president and CEO of Show Management, the company sponsoring the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, says he expects the event to be stronger this year than last.

Yacht brokerage is leading the way in the marine industry’s economic recovery, with more realistic asking prices, which are generating higher sales volume, says Zimbalist. The Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show will be the key event of the year for generating sales.

The CEO of Show Management also said that early August advance ticket sales and exhibitor space for the boat show are a little above compared to last year at this time. The company is aggressively marketing the event in 16 countries, with an emphasis on Russia and Latin America this year.

In an effort to make the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show a sustainable event, Show Management is partnering with Native Energy to offset the event’s carbon footprint through renewable energy projects.

With high hopes for the boat show this year, Atlantic Yacht and Ship is a yacht brokerage in Fort Lauderdale that offers new and used boats for sale.
