Panama is the new destination to charter yachts, due to the numerous island harbors and the re-development of Panama City. New marinas, expanded services and hotels offer a base while the islands provide for a host of destination options.
The San Blas Islands, Pearl Islands, Bocas del Toro, Taboga Islands, Coiba Island, and Isla Grande Portobelo are all beautiful areas to explore by land and sea. These destinations, on both the Pacific and Caribbean, are perfect for yacht charter and surrounded by coral reefs and crystal-clear to deep blue waters perfect for fishing and diving.
The Las Perlas Islands consist of a 90-island archipelago off the coast of Panama City. Contadora is the largest and most visited island and is about 50 miles off Panama. This island is more populated than the rest, and features a few resorts, restaurants, a dive shop, and a golf course. Isla Del Rey and San Jose hold some unique experiences, like a 5-star lunch on a private beach and some of the best fishing in the world- it is a National Geographic experience!
Bocas Del Toro, or the “mouth of the bull”, consists of six large islands which offer mainly ecotourism. Isla Colon is the largest and most visited island of Bocas, and a number of hotels line the community waterfront, literally on the water! Commonly referred to as Key West 50 years ago, this “funky” community, with many Aqua Lodges, is extremely picturesque. The normal mode of transportation on these islands is a water taxi. There are flights daily from Panama City to a full service airport in Isla Colon.
Panama provides a worldly traveler with new experiences and fulfills the senses with so many diverse destinations.
